27 units were produced, 9 of which were equipped with manual transmission , and all left-hand drive. These figures speak for themselves: “Rare” doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Following the six-cylinder powerhouse in the ALPINA B10 Bi-Turbo, the team in Buchloe has now set its sights on the first eight-cylinder engine in the BMW 5 Series and refined it in true ALPINA style. And, as is so often the case, they left no stone unturned. In addition to the usual methods for increasing power (such as machined cylinder heads with larger valves and different camshafts), ALPINA installed a specially cast block in the V8 with a cylinder bore four millimeters larger. It also features a special lightweight aluminum oil pan with an integrated oil pump, higher compression, and an exhaust system with six metal catalytic converters.*
Anyone who’s ever had the pleasure of driving this model knows that it was well worth the effort. A silky-smooth, refined engine, responsive throttle, and that signature “ naturally aspirated ” punch that builds as the RPMs rise. All of this is accompanied by an eight-cylinder sound that’s rarely heard these days. It’s easy to see why a ALPINA sedan was considered the perfect long-distance car for business executives in the 1990s.

The example shown here stands out for its fully traceable history. Delivered by BMW Walkenhorst to its first Swedish owner, the subsequent years are documented through records from the Swedish Vehicle Registration Authority ( MOT inspection (HU)) and various invoices. Back in Germany since 2008, this exceptional automobile is now being passed on once again within our customer base.
