“It has just the right electronic aids to help you drive safely without ruining the analog feel. Later generations of the 911 have become a little larger and bulkier. By today’s standards, the 997 is a compact car and has just enough modern refinements and comfort to let you drive without it being a chore. The reason I bought one was simply to be able to drive it as much as possible.” Octane photographer, Jordan Butters
There’s no better way to sum up the growing enthusiasm for the 997 series of the 911. We, too, have a personal connection to this model, but more on that later.

The vehicle offered here was part of the initial dealer inventory with which the Targa made its debut in the 997 series in 2007. Initially registered in March 2007 to the Porsche Zentrum Inntal dealership that delivered it, the Porsche 911 Targa 4S was re-registered in July 2007 to its last owner to date. There, the Targa 4S enjoyed a leisurely life as a second car for trips to the nearby Alps.
The car is in excellent condition; there are only minor signs of wear, which one would expect from a car that’s just a year old—and certainly from an 18-year-old Porsche 911 Targa 4S that has aged gracefully.
The " key facts " for this Porsche 911 Targa 4S are as follows:
- First-Time Homeowner Plus Porsche Zentrum
- in excellent condition
- Perfectly equipped with manual transmission, sport seats, and full leather interior
- Most sought-after wheel set, 19" Carrera Sport wheel
- original paint except for the rear bumper, which was replaced due to a fender bender in 2007 (invoice on file)
- In April 2025, major service and replacement of various wear parts for EUR 7,000 at Porsche Zentrum Inntal (see below for details)

The Targa models—not just in the 997 series—combine many exciting features that make them even more appealing today as the upcoming “ modern classic .” The wide rear end of the Targas—which are available only with all-wheel drive—combined with the chrome trim along the roofline, gives them that special something. The design, featuring the large glass roof, delivers a fantastic experience whether the roof is open or closed.
And finally, the knowledge that—thanks to the hefty premium paid at the time—I’m driving one of the rare 997 variants. The combination of the larger 3.8-liter engine, the “ manual transmission ”—a rare feature on the Targa—and the extensive list of features make this car the perfect companion for upcoming drives.

The Porsche 997 and Sportwagen Teiber.
I, Sebastian Schaeffer, had the privilege of helping people buy their dream cars as a salesperson at Porsche Zentrum from 2005 to 2013. This spanned nearly the entire production run of the Porsche 997 (2004 to 2012). I’m still in touch with many of my customers who bought a new or used Porsche 997 from me or our dealership back then and who, to this day, are thrilled to call it their own.
For me, the 997—as already mentioned in the quote from Jordan Butters above—is the perfect blend, the ideal “ 911.” Mechanical, analog, and compact like the older model series. But with comfort and, above all, safety features that make driving more carefree and relaxed. Enchanting in sound, with plenty of “ Power ,” and as a “ manual transmission ,” simply a great pleasure.
In the context of today’s Porsche 997, the Targa roof ultimately offers real added value. More versatile and draft-free than the Cabriolet, yet retaining the legendary silhouette of the Coupé, driving a Targa—whether closed or open—is even more enjoyable than it already is.
