A garage opens up on the edge of the Harz Mountains, and behind it stands this BMW M5 E39. It’s in such great condition that it looks like it just left the local BMW dealer’s showroom yesterday. And it has a story that would make even a boring car endearing—but one that makes this M5 even more extraordinary than it already is.

If you haven't been a fan of the classic models from BMW M GmbH so far, spend five minutes looking at this one and you'll be ordering a cap, T-shirt, and coffee mug with the M logo.

Everything about it was just right. A rare color, perfect condition, complete documentation, a “ Previous owners ” who had cherished this BMW M5 like the apple of his eye, and a grandson who was sensible enough to use the proceeds to finance his aerospace engineering studies. If there’s anyone we’ve taken great pleasure in transferring a lot of money to over the past 30 years, it’s this likable young man.

And because this iconic high-performance sedan from the turn of the millennium captivates more than just us, this BMW M5 didn't make it any further than our WhatsApp status before it was sold.
