“It’s easy to stink when your pants are full,” wrote *Rallye Racing* in its February 1983 issue. And to put that to the test, MK Motorsport took the BMW 535i on a 4,000-km trip from Hamburg to Barcelona and back. You can tell from every line of this Rallye Racing special edition.
Anyone who lived through the 1980s and sees this refined E28 today surely can’t help but smile. The spirit of the times literally jumps out at the viewer: 16-inch BBS alloy wheels, front and rear spoilers from Michael Krankenberg Motorsport, a high rear end when unloaded, and, finally, inside the cabin, macAudio crossovers, Pioneer speaker towers on the rear shelf, and fabric seats in the “0130 pacific” color.

MK Motorsport, a long-established company with an impressive track record and successes in the DTM, VLN, DRM, and Group B, clearly knew as early as 1983 how to stand up to the “big names.” The BMW E28 offered here is in no way inferior to the various Alpina and M GmbH models that have passed through our hands.
According to this original new-car invoice , this sedan—manufactured as a BMW 528i—was ordered by a painting company based in Bochum. Equipped with every option available on the price list at MK Motorsport , an impressive 74,820.93 DM changed hands via check. By comparison, a Porsche 911 Carrera would have cost a few thousand DM less at the time.
But since the buyer lives in the Ruhr region and not in Düsseldorf, MK Motorsport uses its MK 52/b engine kit to turn the 2.8-liter engine into a 3.5-liter and boost the power from 184 PS to 250 PS. An original BMW 5-speed sport transmission, MK special suspension, and MK body kit round out the package, and today it still makes just as much noise and puts people in a good mood as it did 40 years ago.

We purchased this Express 5 directly from the previous owner and brought it back to life with the help of a classic car expert in Wuppertal and an authorized BMW dealer. In addition to replacing various wear-and-tear parts, all fluids were changed, and the car was repainted in spots where road use had left marks and scratches (paint thickness report available).
The BMW 535i MK Motorsport is suitable in its current condition as a daily driver for the season.
